Director of Congregational Education and Outreach

Beth Tikvah is one of the largest Conservative synagogues in Toronto (and Canada), a city where it is easy to be Jewish. Toronto has a growing and thriving culturally rich Jewish community as demonstrated by its many Jewish day schools and educational programs, community centres, organizations, kosher restaurants and community events. Our synagogue is celebrating its 50th anniversary with over 1100 membership units and a rich history of meaningful and participatory prayer, music, education, social action and family programming.

We are seeking a Director of Congregational Education and Outreach with proven pulpit skills to support and collaborate with our Senior Rabbi in carrying out the Rabbinic duties of the congregation.

The successful candidate will become part of our vital professional team and will report to the Senior Rabbi. The following are the key job responsibilities:

1. Engagement of our members and potential members

a. Work with the various constituencies of the congregation to encourage stronger relationships with the synagogue
b. Play an active role in youth and young family initiatives
c. Use diverse strategies to reach out to existing and potential members

2. Education

a. Teach at a number of study levels
b.Promote, encourage and lead programs and classes for the enhancement, engagement and development of an already rich educational tradition
c. Encourage synagogue members to serve as lay participants in prayer

3. Rabbinic roles

a. Officiate at High Holiday services
b. Officiate at prayer services on Shabbat and holidays as required
c. Serve the religious and spiritual needs of the members of the synagogue
